CD Review: Paper Thick Walls Debuts "A Thousand Novels"
Right from the opening track, "Old Weathered Wooden Dock", Kate Schell's vocals and Eric Michaels' harmonies give you sense of pop enjoyment. The music and song-writing reflects that of Sufjan Stevens with a touch of Americana to give it an honest sound. The two vocalist are playful with the lyrics of "Orange Tree," but show a darker feeling to their music in "NyQuil" and "A Thousand Novels". The folk sounds of "Portrait" is the perfect blend of music to fit the gentle flow of their harmonies. The pop sounding "Overgrown" is a welcome break from the haunting sounds of "Master of the Sea" and "Infinite", but lacks that punch to make it more memorable.
