CD Review: The Fledglings Fly High With A New EP

From Austin, Texas comes the duo of Wayne Stovey and Kat McNevins known as The Fledglings. They are ready to release their self-titled new EP on Ride A Mule Records. The five-song output gives the duo a sound similar to a 60’s pop-folk group. Their “trippy” sound begins with “Paternoster (Inhale Balloons),” which sounds a bit unpolished, but contains a chorus that is hard to resist. Stovey adds a sitar-sounding guitar to the beginning of “Catching a Raindrop,” while “Krystal” wants you to relax and expand your mind to their music. While their music may not be mainstream pop, it is definitely worth checking out.

The Fledglings recently performed at this year’s SXSW festival and acquired drummer Danielle Moran for future projects within the band. Check out the band’s website for more information and well as song samples.
