I'm surprised that this hasn't been done before, but Deadline Music in association with Cleopatra Records has released "Thriller: A Metal Tribute to Michael Jackson." The project was spearheaded by producer/musician Bob Kulick (KISS) and features some of the greatest singers and musicians in heavy metal, both past and present.
Singer Chuck Billy (Testament) gets things going with the perfect atmosphere attack of "Thriller." His hard-hitting vocals are the perfect match for this horror soundtrack hit. Another great match is Fishbone's Angelo Moore on "The Way You Make Me Feel," along with help from Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake) and Rudy Sarzo (Queenryche). The heaviness of "Beat It" is the perfect backdrop for Diemonds' Priya Panda's vocals as Ron "Bumblefoot" Thai lends a hand on guitar to give the song a boost in the metal direction. Living Colour's Corey Glover is the closest match to the originator in "Billie Jean," while Motohead's Phil Campbell gives the song its crunch on guitar. The one song that originally was the most metal that Michael Jackson would get is "Dirty Diana," and Fozzy's Chris Jericho adds more grit to the song as producer Bob Kulick gets into the act on lead guitar. The disc closes with the only song that was previously released, Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal," which was a hit for the band back in 2001.
