Irish rock band Pugwash just released their latest album "Play This Intimately (As If Among Friends)" domestically and internationally through Omnivore Recordings. Following the release of the "greatest hits" set last year, the band returned to the studio with a renewed sense of purpose. The new album continues the success of their addicted, hook filled, pop/rock songwriting that has made them a huge success in Europe and especially in their home country of Ireland.
The new twelve song release begins with the guitar driven rocker "Kicking and Screaming," which features a "shout" from the legendary Jeff Lynne, while the melody of "Lucky In Every Way" settles into more pop territory. They deliver the folk-like feel of "Feed His Heart With Coal" and the gentle, nostalgic tone of "Just So You Know." Pugwash inject some of their Celtic background in the up-tempo, rockabilly feel of "You Could Always Cry," before inviting more friends (Ray Davies, Andy Partridge, Neil Hannon and Noel Langley) to help out with the Kinks-like tone of "Oh Happy Days." The album finishes with the slow-moving, experimental, psychedelic blues of "We Are Everywhere."
Pugwash are currently on tour is the U.S., making their way to the Northeast this weekend. To find out more about their latest release "Play This Intimately (As If Among Friends)," please visit their Facebook page at facebook.com/pugwashtheband.
