CD Review: New Music From Independent Metal Bands Temptation's Wings & Curses

From North Carolina comes the latest release from independent thrash metal band Temptation's Wings titled "Skulthor Ebonblade." Their new eight-song release begins with the short doom-like, build-up instrumental "Burning Of Hjalmar," before exploding with the thrash metal appeal of "I Destroyer." They work in a more progressive-metal sound with "Into The Maelstrom" and "To Forge A Legend." Their energy comes pouring out of the "Lair Of The Gorgon Queen" with its classic metal riffs and headbanging rhythms. The album finishes with the nine-minute storied journey of the "Witches Of Dredmoor" and the slower, doom metal appeal of "My Name Was Skulthor." From West Virginia comes the metalcore band Curses with their full-length debut studio album, "Chapter 1: Introspect." The band has received praise from Revolver Magazine for their single "Fortune Collapse" and they received a slot on the Vans Warped Tour. Their new ten song release, begins with the thunderous, heavy metal attack of "Death Adder" and the chugging guitars of "The Abandoned." The metalcore vocals of "Outlast" and the energetic juggernaut of "Fortune Collapse" showcase the youthful energy this band puts into each of their songs. They continue their assault on your ears with the adrenaline pounding of "The Lowest Level Of Loyalty" and the battle cry of "Hollowed Eyes," before finishing the album with infectious rhythm of "Nightmare" as the vocal mix is perfect on this closing song.
