The second half of the month sees the return of GWAR after a four year absence. Their new album titled "The Blood Of Gods" will be released on October 20th and is the first album without their fallen leader Oderus Urungus (Dave Brockie), who passed away in 2014. This album also sees the return of Michael Bishop in a new role as Blothar The Beserker, new lead singer of the band. Their new album features a dozen tracks, beginning with the epic, seven-plus minute "War On GWAR." Fans will notice the difference in the delivery of the vocals, but the change is a welcome one for a band that is one of the most entertaining in heavy metal music. GWAR attacks the presidential office with the politically charged "El Presidente" as they add a bit of horns to their hardcore sound to show another dimension to the band's songwriting. They deliver a crushing blow to your speakers with the intense delivery of "I'll Be You Monster" and "Auroch." They finish up their new release with the album's lead single "F*ck This Place," which is a high-energy arena rocker and then close with a spot-on cover of AC/DC's "If You Want Blood (You Got It)." GWAR has a string of live shows that run into mid-December. For a complete list of dates and to find out more about their new album "The Blood Of Gods," please visit gwar.net.
Also on the return is Swedish metal band Sorcerer with their brand new studio album "The Crowning Of The Fire King." It is only the band's second album since forming the idea of the band, Sorcerer almost 30 years ago. Their music has been worth the wait as their Metal Blade Records debut "In The Shadow Of The Inverted Cross" was released in 2015 to stellar reviews (jpsmusicblog.blogspot.com). Now we get a new 8-song album that begins with the epic sounds of "Sirens" and the nearly 10-minute progressive metal appeal of "Ship Of Doom" as you are invited into Sorcerer's world. They slow down the tempo for the dark, doom-like metal of "The Devil's Incubus" and then showcase their quieter side with with acoustic instrumental "Nattvaka," before finishing their new album with the ten-minute epic adventure of "Unbearable Sorrow."
