Grammy-nominated soul/blues artist Janiva Magness returns with her 14th studio album titled "Love Is An Army." It features a handful of guests artists including blues legend Charlie Musselwhite, Cedric Burnside, country/Americana artist Delbert McClinton and others. Her new 12-song release begins with the smooth soulful/R&B groove of "Back To Blue," which carries a gospel-like vibe and set the stage for Janiva's latest release.
The album continues with the steady flow of "Hammer," highlighted by Charlie Musselwhite on harmonica, and Poco's Rusty Young added some sweet slide-guitar to "On And On." Vocalist Bryan Stephens lends a hand on vocals to the up-lifting lyrics of "Love Is An Army," then Della Mae's Courtney Hartman helps give "Down Below" a country/Americana vibe. The voices of Janiva Magness and Delbert McClinton lay down the emotional ballad "What I Could Do," before the stomp/clap rhythm of "Home." Janiva closes her new album with the beautifully quiet tones of "When It Rain" and the piano ballad "Some Kind Of Love."
