French bass player Shob has worked with artists from Sly & Family Stone and G3 and he is releasing his second studio album this April titled "Karma Obscur." The new 13-song set is an eye-opening progressive rock/funk piece that includes over a dozen special guests to help out. Beginning with "Hors d'oeuvre," you get a short, 2-minute introduction to Shob's skills on the bass, along with a slight beatbox for rhythm. Shob settles in with the funk-infused "Straight Ahead" as he carefully delivers every note to your liking, then delivers the jazz/R&B groove of "Except I'm 65" that also includes a nice hard rock breakdown. Shob speeds through the title-song "Karma Obsur" as a progressive rock master bass player, before slowing back down for the horn-infused funk of "The Right Move." Shob get playful with the groove of "The Professor," before finishing up his new album with the solo filled jazz fusion of "Sulfur." Stu's new 10-song release features just himself playing bass to give emotion to the different chapters of "The Diary Of Patrick Xavier."
