Arriving March 30th is the latest release from the Swiss-based, progressive instrumental band Sonar. Their new album titled "Vortex" features world-renown guitarist/composer David Torn as the band take you on half-a-dozen sonic journeys, beginning with ten-minute soundscape "Part 44." The musicianship is amazing as you find yourself lost in the music. Sonar incorporate a modern rock sound to "Red Shift" as their early progressive rock influences are smeared all across this track. The pinnacle piece of this new release is the nearly 11-minute "Monolith" as the melody floats along with electric guitar stimulations along the way. Sonar wrap up the album with the aggressive, hard rock tones of "Lookface!," which according to guitarist Stephen Thelen was "totally improvised" in the studio. Also arriving on March 30th is the RareNoise Records debut from the jazz fusion band Joshua Trinidad Trio. The album titled "In November" features ten tracks that really explore the space between music notes as the atmosphere is filled with striking chords of guitar and trumpet. The new release kicks off with the seven-minute battle of "Bedside" as the Joshua Trinidad Trio draw their influence from the seventies era music of Miles Davis. The album continues with the two part delivery of "Bell," one is a solemn trumpet solo and the other is a lullaby, sung with an acoustic guitar and trumpet. You get drawn in to the dark melody of "Giske" as you listen to the song's subtle notes . The Joshua Trinidad Trio finish up their new album with the elegant, gentle flight of "Kin" and quiet discovery of "The Attic."
