"American Idol" Winner Caleb Johnson Takes Another Step Toward Stardom With New Album

It has been five years since "American Idol" season 13 winner Caleb Johnson released his debut solo album. Now he returns with ten new songs which will be released on his sophomore album "Born From Southern Ground" on June 14. The songs were recorded at Zac Brown's Southern Ground Studio, hence the album's title. Caleb Johnson also has a new backing band on this release, The Ramblin Saints, with Josh Sawyer on guitar and Brennan Dugen on bass.

The album begins with the slow simmer of "Holding On," which simply explodes during the chorus with a gospel choir supporting Caleb's strong vocals. He rocks hard on the raw energy of "Solid Gold" and the pounding rhythm of "Sugar," before slowing down for the burning emotional power ballad "Better Off Alone" and the inspirational feel of "Blind." The album features two versions of his song "Hanging With The Band," one is with the full band, the other is an acoustic version, which has a more laid-back, southern rock groove.
