New Jazz Music Arrives From The Jerry Granelli Trio & Explore The Progressive Side Of Rock With Sonar

On June 26th, The Jerry Granelli Trio bring you the work of jazz legends Vince Guaraldi and Mose Allison with their latest release. It features ten tracks that pay tribute to the music of Guaraldi and Allison, as this trio pour their all into these performances. The album begins with the graceful piano melody of Guaraldi's "Cast Your Fate To The Wind," as pianist Jamie Soft takes the lead. The Jerry Granelli Trio bring the tempo up with the funky jazz groove of Allison's "Parchman Farm," as each member supports one another on this energetic track. The album also features a pair of originals, "Mind Prelude 1" and "Mind Prelude 2." These two tracks showcase the band more experimental side and centers around the bass groove of Bradley Christopher Jones and the spastic rhythm of Jerry Granelli. The bossa nova flow of "Star Song" and "Young Man Blues" once again highlights a couple of stellar songs from the Mose Allison catalog. The Jerry Granelli Trio close out their new album with one of the most famous holiday songs, Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas Time Is Here." Also arriving on June 26th through RareNoise Records is the second volume of "Tranceportation" from Sonar with David Torn.  Volume 1 was released last November (review: jpsmusicblog.com) and volume 2 is equally amazing with another four epic tracks. The album begins with the solid bass line of "Triskaidekaphilia," which allows for the rest of the band to drift off into space. The pace quickens on the nearly thirteen-minute titled song "Tranceportation," as guitarist David Thorn showcases his talents with the stringed instrument. Sonar finish off their new album with the jazz/rock fusion of "Cloud Chamber," which screeches and howls with the band's experimental instrumentation.
