New Box Sets From British Music Acts Be-Bop Deluxe and Fashion

Arriving March 19 from Esoteric Recordings is a new deluxe box set from the British progressive rock band, Be-Bop Deluxe's final studio album "Drastic Plastic." This new release features six discs (4-CD/2-DVD) that cover pretty much every aspect of the album, from the surround sound mixes to unreleased demos, to live radio appearances. The original album has been remastered from the original master tapes and appears on the first disc, along with some extras, like the non-album singles "Future Manifesto" and "Blue As A Jewel." Also included on the close of the first disc is a stark, take four version of "Island Of The Dead," which carries a sixties psychedelic vibe, and the groovy, jazzy instrumental "The Saxophonist."

Disc two includes a couple of Be-Bop Deluxe's live radio appearances from the BBC in 1978. The sound of these recordings is exceptional and it shows the band in top form, as they perform the new wave/punk anthems "Superenigmatix" and "Possession." The third disc of the set features a new stereo mix of the album, which gives it a cleaner, clearer sound, which is especially present in the harder rock songs like "New Precision" and "Love In Flames." Lead singer/guitarist Bill Nelson's demos make up the fourth CD in this set and may the the treasure that fans have been waiting to hear. While the recordings may be on the rougher side, hearing the development of songs like "Islands Of The Dead," "New Mysteries" and "Dangerous Stranger" give the listener a new appreciation for the final result.

The two DVDs include home movie footage of the "Drastic Plastic" sessions and the original broadcast of their 1978 appearance on "Sight & Sound In Concert" for BBC television. The set also includes a 68-page book filled with previously unseen photos and a new essay by former band member Bill Nelson, along with a replica poster and postcards.
